The club was founded by five relative strangers in 2024 who wanted a way to make friends outside the typical weekend bar scene. It has since grown into a popular local wellness and social ritual, drawing hundreds of people every week. It operates on an "every Friday, rain or shine" ethos. Salty Dogs Club SF is a massive, free community-driven group in San Francisco that meets every Friday morning for a social run and a brisk cold plunge in the freezing waters of the San Francisco Bay.
